Thanks to $1 million in Congressionally Directed Funding, WSHA will offer members a new maternal and newborn training initiative. We’re grateful to Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell for securing these funds to support hospitals in Washington State.
This opportunity is designed for select Rural Hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals to strengthen team readiness for emergency maternal and neonatal events through evidence-based education, hands-on simulation and expert-led debriefing.
Through this initiative, hospitals can:
- Build maternal and newborn care skills through education and simulation training.
- Prepare care teams to respond to obstetric emergencies, postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation events and other critical situations.
- Access expert faculty and shared regional resources.
- Collaborate with peers and share best practices with other rural hospitals.
- Improve patient safety, quality outcomes and access to care.
This approach builds sustainable skills, strengthens multidisciplinary teamwork and enhances the delivery of safe, high-quality maternity and newborn care.
We are grateful to Senators Murray and Cantwell for their advocacy and support of this investment in Washington’s rural healthcare workforce and the mothers, newborns and families they serve.
We encourage eligible hospitals to join this valuable initiative and invest in the ongoing development of their care teams. (Trish Anderson)
