This week we recognize the extraordinary efforts of hospitals nationwide in advancing patient care, safety and workforce well-being. It’s a powerful reminder that quality is not just a metric, it’s a mission.
Washington State hospitals continue to lead the charge toward becoming High Reliability Organizations (HROs), embracing principles that reduce harm and foster a culture of safety. From surgical suites to emergency departments, critical access to large health systems, high reliability organizations are implementing systems that anticipate risk, respond with agility, and prioritize continuous learning.
Leadership is the cornerstone of this transformation. When hospital boards and executive teams actively engage in safety strategy, performance oversight, and workforce support, they create environments where excellence is not only possible but also expected.
WSHA proudly stands behind these efforts. We advocate for policies that elevate safety standards, provide education and resources to support HRO development, and convene leaders to share best practices. Through our initiatives, collaborative networks, and quality improvement programs, we empower hospitals to drive meaningful change.
Recognizing our hospitals during Healthcare Quality Week is more than a celebration, it’s a reaffirmation of our shared commitment. Together, we are building a future where every patient encounter is safe, every care team is supported, and every hospital is equipped to deliver the highest standard of care.
Let’s honor the progress and keep pushing forward. (Tina Seery)
