Today marks the end of the 2026 session. This year, working closely with our member hospitals and health systems, WSHA was able to advance key priorities to support patients, caregivers and the stability of Washington’s health care system. Yesterday brought good news for hospitals in the final proposed budget with some tax relief and no direct cuts or new taxes – read Inside Olympia’s budget edition for an overview.

Laws reforming health insurer prior authorization and addressing timely payment will help patients access the care they need. A bill protecting the 340B drug pricing program will ensure hospitals can continue using these critical savings to support patient services and community programs. Key EMS inter-facility transport flexibility legislation passed, bolstering emergency services to help patients receive the right care when they need it most.

Lastly, we are celebrating two bills to improve access to care. Network adequacy requirements for managed care organizations for skilled nursing and habilitation, and flexibility for supervision of IV contrast procedures.

These wins reflect months of collaboration among hospital leaders, policymakers and the association. Hospital advocates from across Washington shared data, experiences and patient stories to help lawmakers understand the real-world impact of these policies.

For a deeper look at the session and a review of the state’s budget decisions, members are invited to join the March 26 legislative session wrap-up webcast. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about next steps for newly passed legislation.

In your service,

Sincerely,
