The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries invites health care professionals to provide input on new workplace violence prevention rules during a virtual stakeholder meeting on Oct. 30, 2025. This rulemaking effort will establish Chapter 296-830 WAC: Workplace Violence Prevention in Health Care, aligning with recent legislative updates and expanding protections for workers across a range of health care settings.
What’s Changing?
The new rule will implement requirements from:
- Chapter 49.19 RCW – Safety in health care settings
- Chapter 72.23 RCW – Public and private facilities for the mentally ill
- Chapter 49.95 RCW – Long-term care workers
The draft rule is divided into three parts:
- Part A – Health care settings
- Part B – Mental health facilities
- Part C – Long-term care settings
Employers will be required to develop comprehensive workplace violence prevention programs, including:
- Clear policies and procedures
- Employee training
- Incident tracking and reporting
